Author Guidelines
Author Guidelines – Jurnal Al-Ta’lim
Jurnal Al-Ta’lim, published three times a year by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, is a peer-reviewed journal focusing on Islamic education and interdisciplinary studies in education. The journal aims to enhance scholarly understanding and disseminate high-quality research findings that contribute to educational sciences and Islamic educational development.
1. General Submission Requirements
Manuscripts submitted must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Authors must attach a signed Author’s Statement confirming the originality and exclusivity of the manuscript.
The manuscript must be written in American English (English-US) or Arabic and contain between 4,000 and 7,000 words, including abstract, tables, figures, and references, excluding appendices.
Manuscripts must be written using Candara, font size 11, with 1.2 spacing.
Quotations and passages in local or foreign languages must be translated into English.
The submitted manuscript should reflect scientific characteristics, such as reviews on education, social issues, politics, law, religion, and culture, presenting original ideas or summaries of research/survey results that contribute to the advancement of society and science.
2. Manuscript Structure
Each manuscript should be structured in the following order:
Title: Concise and informative, including a subtitle if necessary, with a maximum of 14 syllables.
Author’s Information: Include full name (without academic titles), institutional affiliation, and email address beneath the title. Maximum 7 authors with at least 2 affiliations.
Abstract: Maximum 200 words, briefly explaining the purpose, methodology, results, and conclusions. Avoid citations and abbreviations.
Keywords: Up to 5 keywords. Avoid general or plural terms.

3. Submission Process
Jurnal Al-Ta’lim accepts electronic submissions only through the official OJS system. Authors must register and log in to submit manuscripts.
4. Citation and Referencing Style
All citations and references must follow the APA 7th Edition style.
Use in-text citations (body note) with author’s last name, year, and page number (if needed).
All cited works must appear in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the text.
Use the Mendeley or Zotero application as a citation manager.
Footnotes may be used sparingly to provide additional clarification.
References should be arranged in alphabetical order. Entries from journals must include valid DOI or article URLs.
Differentiate between U.S. cities and international cities by including state abbreviations for U.S. locations (e.g., Boston, MA).

6. Print Version
As of 2024, Jurnal Al-Ta’lim no longer provides printed copies by default. Authors who wish to request a printed version may contact the editorial office via email: jurnal.talim@uinib.ac.id
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- Originality and Status: The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- File Format: The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- References and URLs: Where available, URLs and DOIs for the references have been provided.
- Formatting and Styling: The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines. The manuscript is written using Candara font, size 11, with 1.2 spacing, and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- Blinding for Peer Review: Since this journal applies a Double-Blind Peer Review process, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed. Author names, affiliations, and identifying metadata have been completely removed from the manuscript file.
- Plagiarism Policy: The authors acknowledge that the manuscript will be screened for plagiarism using Turnitin before entering the review process. The maximum similarity index allowed is 20-25% (excluding quotes and bibliography).
- Author Fees Policy: The authors are aware of the Article Processing Charges (APC) as stated in the Author Fees section. If financial assistance or a fee waiver is required, a formal request has been prepared to be submitted during the submission stage.

Authors who publish their work in Jurnal Al-Ta’lim agree to the following terms:
- Retention of Copyright & Licensing: Authors retain copyright and grant Jurnal Al-Ta'lim the right of first publication. Simultaneously, the work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0), which allows others to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform, and build upon the material) for any purpose, even commercially, provided that proper credit is given to the original author(s) and its initial publication in this journal is acknowledged.
- Self-Archiving & Post-Publication Distribution: Authors are permitted and encouraged to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository, personal website, or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgment of its initial publication in Jurnal Al-Ta'lim.
- Preprint and Embargo Policy: To maintain the integrity of the Double-Blind Peer Review process, authors are requested not to post or distribute their submitted manuscripts (preprint version) on public websites or institutional repositories while the manuscript is still undergoing evaluation by this journal. Once the article is formally accepted or published, authors are fully encouraged to share and distribute the Accepted Version or Published Version online to increase citation and academic reach.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.

This journal charges the following author fees.
Article Publication: 1500000.00 (IDR)
Jurnal Al-Ta'lim charges the following author fees:
Article Submission Fee: 0.00 (IDR) / 0.00 (USD) There are no fees charged for submitting a manuscript to this journal.
Article Publication Fee (APC): This fee is only charged after the manuscript has been peer-reviewed and formally accepted for publication by the Editorial Board. In accordance with the Rector's Decree of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang Number 1453 of 2021, the tariff is classified as follows:
Domestic Authors (Indonesia): IDR 1,500,000
International Authors (Outside Indonesia): USD 100.00

Jurnal Al-Ta'lim operates a transparent waiver policy to ensure that financial barriers do not prevent the publication of high-quality scholarly work.
Eligibility for Waivers:
Authors from low-income or lower-middle-income countries (based on the World Bank classification).
Undergraduate or postgraduate students who do not receive institutional research funding or grants.
Authors experiencing verified institutional or personal financial hardships.
How to Apply for a Waiver:
Requests for a waiver must be submitted during the initial submission stage (not after the paper is accepted).
Authors must upload a formal Waiver Request Letter signed by the corresponding author (and an institutional supervisor/head, if applicable) as a "Supplementary File" in the OJS system.
The letter must state the reason for requesting a waiver and declare that the research received no specific funding.
Editorial Independence:
Waiver requests are processed independently by the Journal Manager and do not influence the editorial evaluation or peer-review process.
Decisions regarding partial or full waivers will be communicated to the authors before the manuscript undergoes peer review.
